County Contemplates DUI Registry

A recent rise in DUIs for one Utah county has prompted some citizen outrage and prompted some to form a solution to the problem. Residents of Davis County, Utah, have created an outreach coalition to educate people about drunk driving and prevent more accidents. Among the list of accomplishments that the coalition wants to achieve is a DUI registry, much like registries that already list sex offenders across the country.

The coalition says that any person convicted of 2 or more DUIs will appear on a website they are creating and plan to launch this fall.

I’m don’t know if public shaming will do much to deter potential drunk drivers, but it may make citizens less likely to ride with someone on the list.

What do you think? Could a public list, like the one proposed, help prevent more drunk driving fatalities?
